KFNWO’s History and Promise

The Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio (KFNWO) was established in 1966 by a group of
concerned physicians and community leaders who recognized the need to support individuals
with chronic kidney disease (CKD). As an independent, non-profit health agency, KFNWO is
dedicated to addressing the comprehensive challenges of chronic kidney disease by:

• Providing patient and caregiver education, assistance, and support
• Building awareness of chronic kidney disease
• Providing financial assistance to dialysis patients in the form of transportation,
medication, nutritional supplements, housing, and utility bills, etc.

As KFNWO promises to continue our work providing these vital Patient Services, KFNWO is
also focused on preventing CKD. As we seek to prevent the spread of CKD, we aim to create
educational programs and services that promote prevention, volunteerism, and organ donation.

View for the Future: Strategic Plan 2025-2027

In 2024, the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio identified an opportunity to enhance our
impact on community health. To address this, we developed a strategic plan aimed at
diversifying our efforts in combating CKD. To accomplish the goals set within our strategic plan,
our focus will be on education, prevention, and support to empower individuals and families
affected by CKD. The programs we are investing in include:

• Mobile screening programs
• CKD management classes
• Support groups
• Promoting organ donation

Through our mobile screening programs, we will provide accessible early detection of kidney
disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes—key risk factors for kidney health. Our CKD
management classes will equip individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to manage
their condition effectively, emphasizing lifestyle changes and early intervention. Furthermore,
our support groups will create a supportive environment for patients and caregivers to
connect, share experiences, and access essential resources.

As we offer these programs, we will continue to collaborate closely with healthcare providers to
enhance patients’ quality of life, raise awareness about the warning signs of kidney disease,
and promote the importance of organ donation.

At the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio, we believe that education and prevention are
the most powerful tools in the fight against CKD.
