On August 16th, the Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio (KFNWO), together with the UToledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Department, had the pleasure of providing A1C screenings at the Black Men’s Wellness event at Jesup Wakeman Scott High School in Toledo’s Old West End. It was truly an inspiring day of fun, brotherhood, and health!
KFNWO joined a wonderful team of skilled and caring medical professionals who offered blood pressure, glucose, and A1C screenings. Working side-by-side with the generous Mercy Health Nurses, who provided blood pressure and glucose tests, our KFNWO staff and amazing volunteers from the UToledo College of Pharmacy helped community members learn more about their health through our A1C screenings. Even when a few challenges came up, our volunteers stayed flexible and upbeat, successfully providing 23 A1C tests and raising awareness about kidney health in the community.
We would like to thank the Mercy Health Nurses and their staff for coordinating with us to make the screening process as seamless as possible. A special thank you also goes to the volunteers from the UToledo College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Department for being so agile, adaptive, and braving the heat. And of course, we want to extend our gratitude to the staff at the Black Men’s Wellness event for coordinating the event, welcoming us to offer these important health services, and setting up the much-needed tent and providing the water. We would also like to thank them for creating an atmosphere full of love, brotherhood, and community health. We look forward to being a part of this event for years to come!
