Kidney Foundation adds two new board members
The Kidney Foundation of Northwest Ohio is pleased to welcome two new board members, Eric Scott and Tyrone Layson, to the board. Eric works for the City of Toledo as a Neighborhood Revitalizing Strategy Area Coordinator.  He holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix and has deep expertise in the areas of sustainability, land management, and regulatory compliance.

Tyrone Layson has his master’s degree in public health and is working on his doctoral degree in the same field.  In addition to his studies, he currently works as assistant director of student affairs at his alma mater, the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences.  Tyrone also works as a public health consultant.
Summer Fundraising Roundup
Many thanks to Doug Towslee and the members of Northern Lights Lodge #40 for raising nearly $9,000 during their most recent pancake breakfast.  The event had outstanding attendance, and the food was delicious, as usual.

The Kidney Foundation serves 20 counties in Northwestern Ohio and ships seat cushions, blood pressure cuffs, gas cards, and nutrition supplements to dialysis patients across that service area. The Defiance Moose Lodge #2094 made the Kidney Foundation part of its annual community giving program administered by the Defiance Area Foundation by presenting Executive Director Kelly Mofield with a check for $1000.

We so appreciate both organizations for making this happen.
The 32nd Annual Frank Kuhr Kidney Klassic took place on July 22 at Toledo Country Club. Many thanks to our sponsors Life Connection of Ohio, Sheetmetal Workers Local 33, Signature Bank, and Trust Company Family Offices, and all the golfers and volunteers who participated. Emergency Funds Provide Transportation Assistance
Since the beginning of the year, KFNWO has received 82 requests for emergency assistance.  Transportation is often a concern.  For example, Terri, who lives in Defiance, Ohio, lost her health insurance and her ride to dialysis.  For several weeks, Terri paid the $20 roundtrip cab fare out of pocket while she waited for her new insurance to be approved.  Her social worker reached out to us, and we arranged to pay the cab company directly to ease the burden on her limited finances. Another constituent, Bob, was stranded at dialysis because his father’s vehicle broke down.  We covered Bob’s cab fare to get him home. Breaking down transportation barriers to keep our patients healthy is a crucial part of what we do here at the Kidney Foundation. With your help, we will continue providing these vital community services.
